Do you have a two year old?

Yes – then you could be eligible for a free early learning and childcare place.

Your 2 year old could access up to 570 hours of early learning and childcare funding.

This can be used only at ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rated childcare providers such as Fit ‘N’ Fun Kids.

This funding can be accessed term time:

  • Up to 15 hours per week over 38 weeks of the year,
    or
  • You can stretch your 2 year old funding to cover school holidays, for example use 11 hours over 50 weeks of the year. (Please note that you may not receive the full entitlement if you use the stretch option)

Are you in receipt of any of the following non-working benefits?

These are the same as those to access free school meals.

  • Income Support (IS)
  • Job Seekers’ Allowance (Income-Based)
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA-IR)
  • Child Tax Credit (CTC) with a household income of less than £16,190 and working less than 16 hours
  • Guarantee Element of Pension Credit (GPC)
  • Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 (IAA) Support

Please note that Working Tax Credit is not an eligible benefit for claiming free school meals and therefore cannot be used to claim 2 year old funding.

Checking eligibility: you can call the office or text 60030 starting with FIS and then the benefit claimants surname, date of birth and national insurance number.

The funding starts the term following your child’s second birthday:

  • A child born between 1st April and 31st August can access childcare from 1st September
  • A child born between 1st September and 31st December can access childcare from 1st January
  • A child born between 1st January and 31st March can access childcare from 1st April

A number of children are automatically eligible for a funded place regardless of income, these include children supported through social work (child protection, child in care or child in need) and families within the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Community.
