Newsletter March 2018

Lynn Lynn, Day Care Manager

As you may be aware our Preschool and Littles are changing rooms from next week 12th March. Please bring your children to their new rooms from next week where your staff member will be there to greet you. Our new garden is looking lovely for the children to explore and we will be completing it soon with a planting and muddy area, for the children to play in.

Children who attend breakfast club will be greeted in the new Littles room from 7.30am, which is the first room you come to as you come into Nursery.

I would like to welcome Emmie our new Early Years Teacher to our Preschool team and also welcome Emma back to our team, who will also be working in our Preschool room.

Easter Holidays

Spring term funding for term time only children will finish on Friday 23rd March and the summer term starts again on the 16th April 2018.

The nursery will be closed on Friday 30th March for Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday 2nd April.

Please keep adding to your child’s Tapestry, it has been lovely seeing all the children playing in the snow!

Andrea Andrea, Under Twos Manager

Firstly this month we will be focusing on St Patrick’s Day and the colour green. We will be making shamrocks and leprechaun’s using a range of materials. This covers exploring media and materials and people and communities in the EYFS.

We will also be doing lots of green activities including painting with green bricks and gluing and sticking green collage pieces. This covers exploring media and materials in the EYFS.

We will have a green sensory tub filled with a variety of green resources to touch and feel. This covers the world in the EYFS.

Later on in the month we will move on to Spring and Easter. We will be making baby animals including lambs, calves and chicks and spring time flowers like daffodils, using a range of material and mark making tools. This covers exploring media and materials and physical development in the EYFS.

For Easter we will be making cards and Easter crafts and will be baking some Easter nests to take home and enjoy. This covers exploring media and materials, the world and physical development in the EYFS.

Claire Claire, Littles Manager and Deputy Manager

March in the Littles room is going to be very exciting as we will be moving to our new room! We will start the month by making some special cards and artwork for our mum's. We are then going to celebrate St Patrick's day by trying some soda bread, making some rainbows and hunting for some gold in water, shaving foam and ice. We will listen to some Irish music and try out some Irish dancing which helps the children develop their understanding of the world.

Then we will focus on Easter, making some lovely crafts for you to keep which links to exploring media and materials. We will make and hide some Easter eggs for a special Easter hunt that will help the children to develop their maths skills by counting the eggs and talking about their size (big and small). Can we please remind parents not to let their children bring in toys from home as they sometimes cause arguments and can get broken or lost. We look forward to an exciting month with your wonderful children.

Sasha Sasha, Early Years Teacher – Pre-School

Hello!

We have been very busy in pre-school with all of our planting and gardening, so far this term we have all planted our very own beanstalks and flowers, which we will continue to look after and observe, recording any changes we see. Moving into March we will be planting some vegetables and herbs in our garden and we hope to use these within our cooking once they have grown. We will also look at how flowers, fruit and vegetables grow and what they need to do this, this will enable us to look at healthy eating, exploring a range of fruits and vegetables and what we can do with them, for example handling cutlery safely to help chop up fruits and vegetables to make a fruit salad or vegetable soup for example. This builds upon the children’s health and self-care, addressing the importance of healthy eating and handling utensils with control and co-ordination.

In addition to this, we will look at the role of a farmer in caring for their animals and crops, comparing sizes and shapes and adding in some counting too. We will continue to explore our growing theme, looking at how the children have changed and developed since they were babies – it would be lovely if you could bring in some pictures of your child as a baby so they can compare how they have changed from then until now. These activities all link to ‘understanding of the world’ and talking about changes observed.

As pre-school is getting quite busy, please could you label all of your children’s clothing if possible, as it can be quite difficult to keep track of which item of clothing belongs to which child! Also if they do bring in anything from home, please could they pop it into their bag or label this too, as we would like to keep all personal things safe.

As always, please feel free to pop in and see what we have been up to and add any key moments or exciting days out etc onto Tapestry. Thank you :)

Amy Amy, Out of School & Holiday Club Manager

In After School Club this March we will be kicking it off by becoming mini scientists with a variety of Science experiments such as making a tornado in a jar, mixing mints and coke, skittles and warm water experiments, glow in the dark volcanoes and much more! We will also become chocolatiers and make many sweet creations to be taken home! The Easter holiday itinerary is also out so please ask after school for one or in the office and see what adventures we will be getting up to over Easter.
