Newsletter August 2018

Lynn Lynn, Day Care Manager

What a busy month we have had with Parents evening for parents who were unable to make it please remember you don’t need an appointment to ask about your children we are always available to discuss your children’s development.

Sports day may have got off to a bit of a damp start but the children all did so well and so did the parents. It  was so nice to see so many of you there.

It was so lovely to see everyone again at our Preschool graduation and BBQ, we all have a little tear in our eyes as we look at the graduation pictures in the hallway and see how much your children have grown during their time here at Fit ‘n’ Fun kids.  We would like to wish them all the luck in the world as they start their next big adventure at school.

Can you please let me know if you have not been linked to your child’s tapestry so that we can resend the link to you via email.  You can also upload pictures from your own adventures with your children which we love to see.

Please remember to send in named sun cream and sunhats for your children so that we can enjoy this beautiful summer.

Andrea Andrea, Under Twos Manager

Firstly this month we will be focusing on under the sea, we will be creating different sea creatures using a range of materials. This covers Exploring Media and Materials and The World in the EYFS.

We will have a small world area with sea animals, boats, blue and green items and talk about the different things we see.  This covers The World, Understanding and Speaking in the EYFS.

Later in the month we will be looking at colours and shapes and doing crafts using the different colours and shapes. This covers Exploring Media and Materials in the EYFS.

We will also have a sensory tub with different coloured and shaped items like, bricks, cups, cars etc and talk about the colours and shapes we can see.

Please can parents send photos in for their child’s family book, if you have not already done so, we can photocopy these or you can email them in if it is easier.

Just a reminder to check your child’s red artwork bag and empty it if needed, as we have been getting very creative lately. If you are unsure where to find this please ask a member of staff in the under 2’s room.

Claire Claire, Littles Manager and Deputy Manager

Our theme this month is Nursery Rhymes, this theme links to communication and language as well at literacy in the EYFS. We will be learning the children’s favourite songs and learning some new ones. The children will learn all about shapes in songs like “Twinkle Twinkle” and learning numbers through songs such as “5 Little speckled frogs” and “5 Little ducks” which all links to mathematics in the EYFS. The children will take part in lots of creative and sensory activities which helps them to develop in the exploring media and materials area of the EYFS. The children will also still take part in all the usual activities such as wake and shake and Forest school.

A couple of reminders this month:

  • If you send in a water bottle for you child please ensure that they are labelled.
  • Please do not allow your children to bring in toys from home as they sometimes cause upset between the children and could get broken.
  • Please remember to send in nappies and wipes with your children. If you send them into nursery in bulk we will let you know when we are running low.

Sasha Sasha, Early Years Teacher – Pre-School

Wow! The summer holidays are here and we have lots of exciting things planned over this month. We will begin by looking at the theme ‘a splash of colour’, enabling the children to explore and experiment with mixing and sorting colours, leading to all sorts of fun experiments, for example we will look at what happens to a white rose when it is placed into pots of different coloured water. This links to the understanding the world aspect within the EYFS, enabling the children to investigate the world around them, deepening their curiosity and understanding of why certain things happen. We will also look at the story ‘Elmer the patchwork elephant’, and the children will have the opportunity to create their own mosaic pictures too. This enables them to build upon their problem solving skills, positioning and sticking together coloured squares to create their own pictures, this links to the Shape, Space and Measures element within the EYFS.

Following this theme, we will then go on to look at local celebrations, such as Falmouth Week, leading to us planning and creating our own carnival, for the other rooms to see. For example, the children may design their own outfits, or make some masks, building upon experimenting and using media and materials. We will also have some fete games for the children to challenge their physical skills and hand eye co-ordination, such as hula hooping, tin-can alley and skittles. We will have a look at the flags hung throughout Falmouth town and create our own to decorate the pre-school room with, linking to People and Communities element within the EYFS.

As the weather is still lovely and sunny please continue to send your children in with named hats and sun cream to help protect them from the sun. Also we would love you to continue to add to tapestry over the summer period to, it’s always nice to see what fun you are all up to!
