Welcome to this month’s newsletter!
It’s Christmas time!!
This month we are super busy with lots of exciting activites planned.
The Pre-school and Explorers children had a lovely time performing their Christmas play and songs at the Flicka Donkey Sanctuary, with all proceeds going to help provide food and care for the lovely donkeys; we had nearly 200 pound in donations, so thank you all so much.
The children’s Christmas dinner will take place on Tuesday 18 th December and our Christmas party will take place on Thursday 20th December with party games and a lovely Christmas story from our Christmas Elf.
We are closing for the Christmas break on Friday 21 st December at 6pm. We will reopen on Wednesday 2nd January 2019 at 7.30am.
Stretched funded children (all year) return on the 2 nd of January and term time only children return on the 7th of January 2019.
Reminder: If you have a child born between 1 st September 2014 and 31 st August 2015 you will need to apply for a place in reception class in September 2019. The deadline to apply is the 15 th January 2019. Please visit www.cornwall.gov.uk/admissions for more information.
On behalf of myself, Karen, Vicky, Wendy and Rachel we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and peaceful new year and remember our door is always open when you need us.
Sennen / Gemma, Under Twos Managers
It’s Christmas time so we are starting our Christmas creations, including fluffy snowmen, wreaths, baubles and Reindeers! The children are going to be exploring their senses by playing with a sensory tub filled with tinsel, baubles and tree decorations. We will be making ginger bread playdoh, and may even test out some Christmassy treats! In the soft play room we will be doing some music and movement using tinsel listening to our Christmas songs.
We will still be using the garden and mud kitchen throughout winter so please provide coats, wellies and spare clothes. (all named please)
The children have been loving their family books recently, so if you haven’t yet brought in family photos you can always email them in.
Claire, Littles Manager and Deputy Manager
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Littles Room with Christmas music playing and all the children getting creative and wearing some funky Christmas outfits.
The children will be using a lot of different resources to make some lovely keepsakes for you. (This links to Personal, Social and Emotional development as well as Expressive arts and design).
In small groups we will be listening to the story of the first Christmas and also learning about the different ways that other children celebrate christmas all around the world (this helps to develop your child’s Understanding of the world).
We will also be showing off our dance moves when listening to some jolly Christmas songs (this helps your children with their physical development as well as communication and language).
We still like to go outside whenever possible so if you could please send your children in with coats and wellies so that we can wrap them up to go outside no matter the weather (please make sure they are labelled).
Sasha, Early Years Teacher – Pre-School
Merry Christmas Everyone!
Throughout December we will be doing lots of festive activities. The children have been super busy practicing their singing and performing skills for our Christmas nativity and singalong. Pre-school will also be using their imaginations to create Santa’s workshop, becoming Christmas elves and helping to wrap presents and write labels! We will be doing some weighing and measuring, making and decorating some gingerbread men and Christmas cookies. There will be lots of Christmas card making and festive crafts too. We will also have some wintery walks down to the woods to collect some natural objects such as pine cones and twigs to decorate for Christmas tree as well. What a lot of festive fun!
Pre-school will be developing and sharing their own ideas surrounding what they would like to learn and do relating to the Christmas period too, so activities and plans may change throughout the month depending on their interests.
Thank you for those of you that came to parents evening it was lovely to see you all, if you were unable to make it please feel free to pop in and see us at any time or arrange another date if you would like to. We will also be collecting some food for Falmouth and Penryn Food Bank, please see the posters around the nursery if you would like to contribute to this.
We have had a really busy autumn term, getting to know the children and their interests and exploring lots of special celebrations and occasions from around the world, with lots of fun learning experiences led by the children. It has been lovely to watch them all thrive within our pre-school environment!
We are still collecting weekly for the local food bank, so if you can bring anything in for this we would really appreciate it. The box is on the trolley in the hallway.
