Rachel Jones

Founder and CEO

As a mum of two young children, Oliver and Amy, I launched Fit ‘N’ Fun Kids in 2001 as a service that provided high quality childcare to families, with an ethos of a childcare environment that was above minimum standards set by Ofsted, provided a warm, caring and nurturing environment that I would want for my children.

I wanted to be sure that parents were confident in putting the care of their children in the hands of a capable, qualified and experienced team.

In recognition of this commitment, we have been awarded a number of industry-specific as well as a variety of business awards including being the only UK childcare providers with the Gold Standard IiP accreditation (data 2012) – see more details of our awards here.  We also hold the Level 4 Award for Nippers Nutrition

At Fit ‘N’ Fun Kids we guarantee a fully trained, dedicated and caring team of staff who are there to look after your child’s welfare.  It has always been important to me that we care for our staff and support them with their personal growth in order to ensure they are the best practitioners for your child and for this we have been rewarded with a team that have been in place for many years with a low turnover of staff.  We home grow our own through Apprenticeships and support continual personal development.  We care for our staff as much as your children and this to us is important to ensure our environment is a happy one for all – read more about our core values here.

I am passionate about business and have established Leading Women UK to support working women (this also supports us working mothers) and as a transition from Fit N Fun Kids and education, I established the Enterprise Foundation South West CIC to support and encourage young people into enterprise.  I am a member of the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Employment & Skills Boardand also a member of Cornwall College Camborne Council.

As a childcare provider, I am even more aware that, as a parents most treasured gift, every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential.  Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances.  A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right.  Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.

In the current economic climate, having the choice of having one parent remaining at home to bring children up is not necessarily an option for most families, therefore, ensuring their child or children are in a safe, caring environment is essential.  There are several types of childcare provisions to choose from, extended family support, child minders, day care nurseries and on-site crèches.  As children grow, pre-school (which can be part of their child’s day care provision), wraparound care and out of school care such as breakfast, after school and holiday clubs are available to support working families.

Forming a strong partnership with your child’s key worker is essential for not only your child but for you as a parent. This partnership will ensure the best quality care is given, supported through transitions throughout the setting to school and if required, around the school day until your child becomes an independent young person.

Look at life through the eyes of a child and you see wonder everywhere. Even ordinary things hold extraordinary promise, and every little activity, from splodging with a paintbrush to splashing in a puddle helps children understand about the world around them and how it all works.

At Fit N Fun Kids, we look at every experience as an opportunity for learning, and we surround our children with interesting and stimulating materials and activities that help develop balance, confidence, motor skills, language, communication, maths; the list goes on…

Because children learn most effectively when they’re having fun, we focus on Learning through Purposeful Play, guiding, prompting, using open questions and encouraging them throughout the day. Each child is allowed to take things at their own pace, with their key person identifying each stage of their development and supporting them through every fascinating and exciting adventure.

Each room has access to the garden, outside play areas, indoor soft play room, trips out and about including water sports and is equipped with age-appropriate equipment of the highest quality.  Everything’s easy to reach and we build children’s independence by encouraging them to make their own choices. By giving them chances to work as an individual and as part of a group, we can also help build their self-confidence and promote social interaction.

Memories and achievements are captured and added to your child’s Learning Journey, which becomes a story of their time at Fit N Fun Kids, and a memento to treasure for years to come.

As a parent, don’t be fearful of looking at many childcare providers to be sure you are making the right choice for you and your child.

Fit N Fun Kids has been quoted by Ofsted as having a ‘family atmosphere’ which we feel is a true reflection of how a childcare environment should be and all our Ofsted inspections are consistently graded as ‘Good’ including all our eight YMWA Support Creches.

I will always go above and beyond to ensure we deliver the high quality childcare service we promise and always welcome constructive feedback – I appreciate there can always be room for improvement, so on this note, please contact me at racheljones@fitnfunkids.co.uk if you wish to meet with me to discuss any of our provisions or any of the other initiatives I support.
