What a wet and windy start to the month, however, this has not stopped the children getting outside to and has brought extra fun whilst playing in our mud kitchen and splashing in the puddles!

Sennen and Gemma Sennen and Abi, Under Twos Managers

This term our theme is Spring, we will be looking at lots of different animals and plants in our community.  We are planning to take the children to the woods to see if we can spot any flowers growing and look at the trees and surrounding areas. (understanding the world in the EYFS).

Inspiration room will be looking at the book ‘we’re going on a bear hunt’ and doing our own hunt.  They will be looking at plants growing and then will be planting some herb seeds in pots, which can then be planted into our herb garden; they will enjoy lots of sensory exploration with soil and will be using their fine motor skills.  We will make our own squelchy mud playdough for the children to enjoy, as well as exploring paint and printing bears. (This is exploring media and materials.)

You may have noticed a change in Room Leader photos above. We are delighted that Abi has agreed to take over leadership of Inspiration Room which will allow Gemma to focus on her work in the Toddler Room.  Abi has previously led this age group and is very excited to take on her new role

Claire Claire, Littles Manager and Deputy Manager

This month in the Littles room we are continuing our Teddy Bear theme this month focusing on Teddy Bears Picnic. We will be drawing the foods we would like to take on our picnic (Writing) and talk about the people we would like to go on a picnic with (People and Communities). We will visit the woods as often as possible to look for Teddy Bears on their picnic.

On the week of the 18th March we will have a teddy bears picnic each day and would love for the children to bring in their favourite teddies. During this week we will make our own picnic which will encourage the children to try new foods (Health and Self Care) and fingers crossed if the weather is dry we will head down to the woods (or just into the garden) for our picnic.

We will be making some cards for our mummies/nannies that have a special day coming up at the end of the month.

Please remember to upload your photos to tapestry as we love to see all the exciting things you and your children do away from Nursery.

Sasha Sasha, Early Years Teacher – Pre-School

Our tadpoles almost have legs! Pre-school and Explorers have been doing a great job looking after our tadpoles, they have grown so much and are just starting to form little legs! This month we are continuing with our growing theme, linking this to stories and nursery rhymes. The children really enjoyed learning about The Very Hungry Caterpillar and we have just begun learning the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, using a story map with actions to retell the story. The children have been planting their own magic beans, which has led to them becoming curious around why things grow, what they need and how long this takes.

Throughout this month we will be exploring how fruit and vegetables grow and the role of a farmer, this develops their awareness of people and communities and the work that goes into their food before they eat it. This will also enable us to look at nutrition and what it means to be healthy, the children will have the opportunity to get creative planning and preparing their own picnic, practice their hand eye co-ordination and ability to handle tools carefully through baking and chopping up their own fruit salad and continuing to look after our tadpoles and plants, keeping bean diaries to record the changes they notice over time.

This may then lead onto exploring farm animals and their needs; this will be linked to the story of the Three Little Pigs, which will support the children in exploring a range of media and materials to design a strong shelter for the pigs. We will also look at the names of baby animals and observe how they change, linking this to how we change and develop as we get bigger. We also aim to cover how we look after ourselves, activities may include washing and drying babies, looking at baby photos and thinking about how they have grown and building upon independence, continuing to encourage the children to put their shoes and coat on by themselves, to support them in developing school readiness.

Thank you for making such a great effort for World Book Day, all of the children looked fantastic; it was such fun showing off their costumes to each other. Please remember to add to Tapestry, we love to see all the exciting things you get up to at home!
